  • What Is Team Building

Welcome to our new Team-Building Series with lapdog inc. at Lanier Islands Resort. In this first episode, we’re introducing who lapdog inc. is and what team building really means. We’re also clearing up common misconceptions - what team building is and what it isn’t.

Team building is not simply about activities or exercises. At its core, it is about creating the conditions where trust can form. According to Shane Sullards, effective team building happens when people are placed into shared challenges or structured collaboration. In those moments, team members stop seeing only roles and responsibilities and begin seeing each other as people. A team building session can reveal how a team naturally communicates and collaborates.

In upcoming videos, we’ll take a deeper dive into specific team-building experiences and how they can elevate your team’s performance, communication, and culture.

  • Building Trust

Trust isn’t built in a boardroom - it’s built through shared experiences. In our latest team-building vlog, we explore how intentional exercises can strengthen trust in real, tangible ways. One of our favorites was when a team that was normally quiet and cautious during meetings participated in a timed problem-solving challenge called “Building Bridges.” At first, people held back and waited for direction, just as they did at work. But over time, the dynamic changed. One person shared an idea, others built on it, and more team members began contributing in real time. By the end of the exercise, the group was communicating and collaborating differently. The team’s skills had not changed. Their comfort with each other had.

That is the purpose of team building: creating intentional experiences that help teams engage more openly and work together more effectively. When teams experience success together, trust follows - and that’s what drives stronger performance. Book your team building activity at Lanier Islands Resort today.
