A Different World, Close to Home
In 1962, when the beauty and potential of four partially flooded mountaintops on Lake Lanier was realized, the Lake Lanier Islands Development Authority (LLIDA) was formed to champion the evolution of Lanier Islands into the one-of-a-kind recreational destination it is today. In 1969, the original iconic bridge to Lanier Islands was completed and during the '70s much of the infrastructure was built.
In 1974, Lake Lanier Islands and PineIsle Resort opened to an ecstatic public with activities like camping, boating, golf, a small water park, and overnight accommodations.
In the 1980s LLIDA, expanded the beach, and invigorated a lively, family-oriented resort with an expanded water park and additional recreational facilities.
Construction of a new conference hotel and golf course was completed in the late ‘80s, which is widely remembered as the Emerald Pointe Hotel and Conference Center and Golf Course (now Legacy Lodge and Legacy Golf Course).
In 1997, a new master plan was developed and the park underwent significant beautification enhancements, renovations, and upgrades, including a major expansion of Emerald Pointe Hotel and Conference Center and 30 new rental cottages.
In 2005, a local family partnership with the Virgil Williams family (Lake Lanier Islands Management Company–LLIMC) ushered in a new mission focused on the building of legacies, deep family bonds, and vested local pride. The addition of wet docks and new waterfront venues were approved.
In 2007 and 2008, the resort underwent a massive renovation and rebranding campaign, changing the aesthetics of the property to the upscale rustic luxury resort that you now see today. This included upgrading the now-iconic bridge, adding miles of wide, paved paths, improving roadways, and adding gorgeous lakeview accommodations like Legacy Villas.
As Lanier Islands improved its infrastructure and lodging options, wedding venues were a natural area in which to expand. Multiple lakefront wedding venues and pavillions have been built, and new venue ideas are continuing to be developed.
In 2010, a new lakeside restaurant and entertainment venue was opened. Sunset Cove quickly became the go-to place for both boaters and area residents to enjoy concerts, holiday fireworks, and the ever-popular Full Moon Parties, which are still held today.
In 2018, Lanier Islands entered a joint venture with Darby Campbell and Safe Harbor Development and their brand partner, Margaritaville. Safe Harbor has invested in expanding and improving the resort offerings with upgraded restaurant concepts, a new RV Resort, expanded boat storage, and dry-stack boat storage opening in 2021.

Registered guide dogs or other service animals are not subject to the pet fee.
WHY IS THERE A PARKING FEE AND WHAT IS IT FOR?

OUR COMMITMENT TO HEALTH & SAFETY
To help prevent the spread of COVID-19, we remain passionately committed to maintaining the guidelines set forth by the CDC’s health and safety experts. As precautionary measures continue to evolve with the understanding of the virus, we appreciate your support and cooperation throughout your visit to Lanier Islands.
Guests of Lanier Islands are required to wear face coverings while in interior public areas such as the Legacy Lodge lobby, corridors, elevators, golf shop, and while entering or exiting restaurants. For outdoor areas such as the Legacy Lodge pool deck and golf course, face coverings are encouraged, but not required. Please allow six feet of space between yourself and other guests or employees.
WHAT PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES ARE BEING TAKEN BY LANIER ISLANDS?
Lanier Islands takes great pride in the cleanliness of our property and facilities at all times. We are passionately committed to following the guidelines set forth by the CDC for prevention of the spread of COVID-19, including frequent sanitation of all common areas with designated sanitizing agents and electrostatic foggers.
Hand-sanitation stations have been installed throughout the property, and we continue to monitor and enforce social distancing and face-covering guidelines for guests and staff. Face masks are required for all interior public areas such as the Legacy Lodge lobby, corridors, elevators, golf shop, and restaurant entrances.
WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT OF US:
CLEANING: We have enhanced the protocols and increased the frequency of public sanitation procedures, with a particular focus on key touch points and common areas. Electrostatic foggers are being used throughout the resort for the most thorough santitation of surfaces.
PROTECTIVE WEAR: All associates are required to wear personal protective equipment, including masks and gloves, to keep themselves and our guests safe.
EMPLOYEE SCREENINGS: All associates are screened for fevers and symptoms prior to starting each shift.
NO TOUCH ZONES: We have designated Touch-Free Zones with signage throughout the resort.
DINING: Our restaurants and bars are open with social distancing measures in place. Extra staff are on the floor to ensure continuous cleaning and sanitizing is being maintained. Carry-out food is also available.
GUEST ROOM DEEP CLEANING: All guest rooms are fully sanitized after each stay, including special attention to high-touch areas such as light switches, doorknobs, phones, and remote controls. Sanitation seals are placed on doors once sanitation is complete. We have suspended mid-stay housekeeping service; however additional towels and linens are available upon request.
TWO TEAM MEMBER APPROACH: To minimize cross-contamination when servicing guest rooms, one team member removes all soiled linens and cleans the entire guest room. A second team member then follows to sanitize the room and provide fresh, clean linens for the beds and bathrooms.
WHAT WE ASK OF YOU:
SOCIAL DISTANCING: Please allow six feet of space between you, other guests, and employees.
DO NOT CONGREGATE: Avoid gathering large groups in common areas such as the lobby, bars, and restaurants.
WEAR A MASK: Effective 8/1/2020: Masks will be required in all common interior areas such as the Legacy Lodge lobby, corridors, elevators, golf shop, and restaurant entrances and exits. For outdoor areas such as the pool deck and golf course, masks will remain recommended, but not required.
WASH HANDS: Frequent handwashing is our best defense against the virus.
ENTRANCES: Observe doors marked as entrances or exits and use only as marked.
